Our life with Jesus is like shopping online.
And not.
We humbly admit to ourselves that we lack the personal qualities that we need to thrive in life – wisdom, loving-kindness, faithfulness, and protection.
We “submit” – what an interesting but too-often-maligned word! – our request to the one who can provide what we need.
But Jesus encourages us to click the “submit” button repeatedly. Over and over. Daily.
Just like David did.
God, teach me lessons for living so I can stay the course. Give me insight so I can do what you tell me— my whole life one long, obedient response. Guide me down the road of your commandments; I love traveling this freeway! Give me an appetite for your words of wisdom, and not for piling up loot. Divert my eyes from toys and trinkets, invigorate me on the pilgrim way. Affirm your promises to me— promises made to all who fear you. Deflect the harsh words of my critics— but what you say is always so good. See how hungry I am for your counsel; preserve my life through your righteous ways!
Psalm 119:33-40 (MSG)
And Jesus said,
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
Ask and it will be given to you.
I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. *
Note: Every other week the Blue Spigot includes a section of Psalm 119, a prayer from David that serves well as our prayer, asking God to rekindle in us a love for his word – both the Living Word, Jesus Christ, and the written version (the Bible).
Pray it aloud. Pray it thoughtfully. And pray it several times over the next two weeks.
Benediction of Blessing
May you have a hunger – give me an appetite! – to thrive in your walk with God
May you be convinced of God’s delight in your renewed spirit.
May you hit the submit button regularly and frequently.
